What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows charities such as ours, to reclaim the tax that you have already paid on your donations through UK Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax. All individual donations are eligible for the scheme, including regular gifts such as Standing Orders and Direct Debits.

You can Gift Aid some, if not all of your donations (even previous donations made in the last four years), so you will be doing 25% more to help animals in need with a simple tick or mouse click!

Make your donations go further

You can Gift Aid any donations you make in person, via post or on our website.

For example, if you make a cash, cheque or debit card donation – Gift Aid it!

If you donate items to any of our shops or eBay store – Gift Aid it!

For example If you donate £5 a month to us, it’s a total of £60 a year. To gift aid the £60 you need to pay equal to or more than £60 a year in tax. So if you tick the box saying YES to Gift Aid, we will receive an extra 25%, making your donations grow to £75 a year with no extra cost to you. So that’s an extra £15 for animals in need! That extra £15 could pay for flea and worm treatment for one of our cats, or for some tasty food for a dog!

What difference does it make?

In 2019 we raised £37,370.65 through Gift Aid alone and it is estimated £750 million goes unclaimed each year from donors not saying yes to Gift Aid. Could you imagine if £750 million went to your favourite charities across the UK instead?!

Your donations help us to give a better life to thousands of vulnerable animals every year, by just ticking that box, you can make 25% more of a difference!

Gift Aid FAQs

If you’re retired, on a limited income or in receipt of benefits and unsure of your eligibility, click here for more information or contact us and we will see if we can help you..

If your circumstances change meaning you are no longer paying enough tax, it’s important to tell all the charities you support. If you don’t tell them and they continue claiming Gift Aid, you’ll need to pay any difference back to HMRC.

If you are no longer able to be a gift aider, let us know by calling us on 0303 040 1565 or by emailing us at woof@rspcanorwich.org

Yes you can! You will have to sign up to be a gift aider for each charity you would like to support and can support as many as you like. The only caveat is that you must pay an amount of UK Income and/or Capital Gains Tax, which is at least equal to the combined amount of gift aid that charities are claiming. If you pay less tax than this then you can stop one or more of the declarations to ensure the gift aid is not more than the tax you are paying

Yes, we cannot claim gift aid on any of the following:

  • Adoption Fees
  • Items bought in our charity shops
  • Donations made by companies
  • Proceeds from group collections
  • Funds raised from ticket sales eg. raffle, events, tombola tickets

No problem! You can still add Gift Aid to a previous donation, just let us know and we can organise it for you.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch with us via phone (0303 040 1565) or by email (woof@rspcanorwich.org)
