October- Bonfire Competition!

This competition is for ages 16 and under and will give participants a chance to show off their creative side! Whether that is creative writing, drawing, painting or collage we want you to help us spread awareness for animal welfare leading up to bonfire night.

October is the month for building bonfires and getting them ready for Bonfire Night on November 5th. Whilst they are great for standing around with jacket potatoes and marshmallows, animals may be tempted to find shelter in these pre -made bonfires and not realise it is a great danger to them.

We want to highlight to people the dangers of bonfires to wildlife but to do this, we need YOUR help. For all creative artists, we are looking for a picture showing a bonfire and even some fireworks, it needs to show an animal using the bonfire as its home. This artwork can be painted, drawn or made using different materials. The brighter and bolder the better and remember to show the dangers to the animal.

For those creative writers, we would like either a newspaper report reporting on the dangers of bonfires to wildlife, what we should look out for before we light them and what we can do to help wildlife as the nights get colder.

OR write an account of bonfires from an animal’s view. Do they think we have made them a nice home? Do they like settling down for the night in the warmth of the twigs and branches? What goes through their mind when the bonfire gets lit? What do they hear? What do they smell? What do they feel? What happens to them? Remember to write it from the animal’s point of view.
